
On May 23, 2025, the Zephyr Project community gathered at Espressif Systems India Pvt Ltd in Pune, India, for an insightful Zephyr Project Meetup. This in-person event brought together embedded systems developers, open source contributors, and software developers, creating an atmosphere of learning, sharing, and collaboration.

Here’s a recap of what made this meetup an exciting one!
The event kicked off with a welcome note by Anuj Deshpande, an Embedded Software Engineer, Consultant who emphasized the importance of community driven events in advancing open source ecosystems like Zephyr Project.
Benjamin Cabé, Developer Advocate at The Zephyr Project, delivered an informative keynote highlighting Zephyr’s current capabilities and future plans. His talk sparked a very active Q&A session, with attendees eager to learn deeper into the project’s direction, contribution workflows, and upcoming features. Dhiru Kholia, Security Engineer, Yantra Research shared real-world challenges and triumphs from integrating Puya and WCH chips into Zephyr. Slides here.

Mahavir Jain, Director of Security Systems, Espressif Systems highlighted Espressif’s role in driving open source innovation and the involvement in Zephyr.

Akshay Sharma, Co-Founder, mBedRock demonstrated how mBedRock leverages Zephyr for scalable firmware solutions, addressing numerous audience questions about real-time systems. Slides here.

Vagesh Panditharadhya, Embedded Software Engineer, PHYTEC Embedded Pvt Ltd delivered a live demo showcasing HMI solutions using Zephyr and LVGL on the OpenSource RuggedBOARD-RA8 Renesas MCU. Slides here.

Q&A and Networking Time
The Q&A sessions were particularly lively, with many interesting questions from attendees. Participants engaged actively with speakers, clarifying technical details and sharing their own experiences.
After the sessions, participants enjoyed a networking session with refreshments, generously sponsored by mBedrock and Makerville. This informal time allowed developers, engineers, and contributors to share experiences, discuss ideas, and explore collaboration opportunities.
