The Zephyr Project Meetup held on March 26, 2025, in Grenoble, France, was an insightful evening. Hosted at Schneider Electric’s IntenCity campus, the event brought together embedded systems developers, industry experts, and open source advocates for an evening of technical talks, networking, and collaboration.
Over 80 attendees gathered in person to share knowledge and exchange ideas around Zephyr RTOS. The event kicked off with welcome drinks and snacks. Cédric Lescop (Principal Firmware Architecht, SE) and the team from Schneider Electric kicked things off with a warm welcome, followed by a series of interesting and informative presentations.

Highlights:
From Zero to Zephyr: Getting Started with Zephyr Workbench in VS Code – Roy Jamil, Ac6
This session explored how to set up Zephyr and get started with Visual Studio Code using Zephyr Workbench, a tool that streamlines the development process for Zephyr-based projects. It covered configuring Zephyr, managing SDKs, and using integrated commands for efficient building, debugging, and deployment. Watch the presentation here.

Zephyr unleashed: Mastering application portability across platforms – Nada Lakhal, NXP Semiconductors
This workshop explored Zephyr RTOS application portability, featuring NXP’s facial detection demo. Nada showcased cross-platform adaptability, real-world examples, and key takeaways to help optimize Zephyr-based applications. Watch the session here.

Growing IoT with Open Source: Zephyr OS at Gardena – Marc Lasch, Husqvarna Group
This presentation discussed the journey and current approach to maintaining a Zephyr-based platform at Gardena, highlighting the use of open source ecosystems and best practices. Watch the session here. Access the slides here.

Gather 3 OS on same SOC : Linux, OP-Tee and Zephyr – damien HACKETT, SII / Schneider
This session explored how to build a versatile embedded system by combining multiple operating systems – Linux, OP-TEE, and Zephyr – on a single SoC. It demonstrated how this approach brings together strong driver support, rich application environments, real-time capabilities, cyber resilience, and ease of development and debugging, effectively creating a “5-legged sheep” by leveraging the strengths of multiple OS. Zephyr as a Secure Choice for Embedded Development – Joel GUITTET, Witekio
This session highlighted the growing importance of security in embedded systems and examined how Zephyr RTOS addresses these challenges. It provided an overview of Zephyr’s architecture, key features like modularity and scalability, and its support for secure development through features such as secure boot, memory protection, and hardware-based security integration.
The presentation also covered Zephyr’s alignment with industry standards and certifications (e.g., PSA Certified, GDPR, ISO), and showcased real-world use cases in sectors like medical, IoT, and automotive. It concluded with a focus on Zephyr’s future-readiness, long-term maintenance, and ongoing security updates. Watch the session here. Access the slides here.

Industrial & Open Source crossover – Cedric Lescop, Schneider Electric
This session explored how industrial needs can drive innovation in open source, using Zephyr’s new LLEXT subsystem as a case study. LLEXT enables loading and executing ELF files at runtime without re-flashing the base firmware, allowing for dynamic firmware extension. The presentation provided a technical deep insight into this mechanism and how it can reshape firmware updates and runtime behavior in embedded systems. Watch the session here. Zephyr v4.1: Status of support on STM32 – Erwan GOURIOU, STMicroelectronics
How STM32 is supported on Zephyr with Zephyr recent release, how ST team is collaborating with community to enhance the support. Watch the session here.

During the closing session, a fun quiz was held, and winners received free development boards sponsored by NXP Semiconductors, Nordic Semiconductor, and STMicroelectronics.

Cédric Lescop and Thomas Millou delivered a thank-you note on behalf of the Schneider Electric team.
