What to expect at Zephyr Project Meetup (January 30, 2026): Brussels, Belgium

By January 23, 2026No Comments

The Zephyr Project community is coming together for an in-person meetup in Brussels, just ahead of FOSDEM and during the broader EU Open Source Week. Whether you’re a long-time contributor or simply curious about embedded open source, this meetup is designed to be welcoming, practical, and community-focused.

The meetup is kindly sponsored by Mind, a team of FOSS contributors and maintainers supporting clients worldwide across kernels, embedded security, board bring-up, and build systems.

Who should attend?

This gathering is open to anyone interested in open source, embedded systems programming, and software development. You don’t need to be a Zephyr expert to join, whether you are just getting started or already building production systems, there’s something here for you.

Our primary language for talks and group discussions is English, and we welcome participants from all backgrounds and experience levels.

Session Highlights:

14:00–14:30 — Welcome drinks and snacks

14:30–15:00 — Welcome note & State of the Zephyr project – Kate Stewart, Linux Foundation

Kate Stewart will open the event with a welcome note and share the latest updates on the Zephyr Project. She will talk about what’s new in the project, how the community is growing, and what to expect in the coming months. This session gives a clear overview of where Zephyr stands today and where it’s headed next.

15:10–15:40 — Turning the Microbit V2 into a BTLE microphone using Zephyr,Colin Evrard and Javad Rahimi, Mind Software Consultancy

The BBC Microbit learning kit is widely used to teach embedded computing from Kindergarten to University, making it an ideal candidate to show off the magic of zephyr in any kind of context. Indeed, we will show that a few lines of C code is all it takes to turn this teaching gadget into a fine piece of wireless audio equipment.

15:40–15:50 — Break

15:50–16:20 — Zephyr & LLMs: The Good, The Bad, and the Hallucinated, Benjamin Cabe, Zephyr project

LLMs and coding agents are evolving at a very rapid pace, and we are at a point where they are becoming a very useful tool for embedded developers, when only a few months ago most people would have considered them to be too “dumb” for this task.
In this talk Benjamin will be sharing some of his experiences using LLMs and coding agents to help with various aspects of day-to-day Zephyr development, from writing boilerplate driver code, helping improve documentation, or assisting in code reviews. There are things that can go terribly wrong, still, but you will leave this talk with a good understanding of the kind of tasks that you might want to consider using LLMs for, and some of the pitfalls to avoid.

16:30–16:40 —MIDI Weaver, Titouan Cristophe, Mind Software Consultancy

MIDI weaver is a personal project that bridges Network and USB MIDI 2.0 using Zephyr. It is a continuation from the author’s previous talk at FOSDEM and EOSS.

17:00–17:30 — Zephyr release engineering — Fabio Baltieri, Google

17:40 – 17:55 – TBD

18:00 – 18:10 – Thank you note

18:10–19:00 — Networking Session

We will also feature lightning talks from the community. If you have a short talk idea related to Zephyr RTOS, a project you are working on, a lesson learned, or a feature you would like to highlight—we encourage you to submit a proposal here.

Networking Time

Beyond the technical sessions, this meetup is about connecting with the community. Attendees can enjoy coffee and Kusmi tea, still and sparkling filtered water, and snacks throughout the afternoon. After the meetup wraps up around 7:00 pm, we will head out together for dinner to keep the conversations going in a relaxed, informal setting.
