What’s on the agenda?

5:00 pm – 5:30 pm – Welcome drinks & snacks

5:30 pm – 6:00 pm – Welcome & Introduction: Zephyr @ Microchip – Dr. Darren Wenn, Assoc Technical Fellow, Microchip Technology

Stefan & Axel warmly welcome the Zephyr community on behalf of Microchip. In this session, they will provide an overview of the current topics and initiatives that Microchip is working on in relation to the Zephyr project. Stefan & Axel will highlight areas of active development, including our efforts to enhance Zephyr support across Microchip hardware platforms. Additionally, they will discuss key challenges we face, such as integrating new processor architectures, ensuring security and reliability, and collaborating effectively with the open source community.

6:10 pm – 6:40 pm – Zephyr at Scale – Shipping Secure and Maintainable Devices – Martin Calsyn, Director of Engineering, IoT, 365mesh.com

By building on Zephyr and building our own local stack of Zephyr modules, a CI pipeline, and manufacturing tools, we have developed four separate globally distributed products that meet EU security standards for security and serviceability at very low labor cost. I will give a quick overview of the mechanisms for flashing serialized images, managing code reuse across multiple projects, building CI pipelines, and servicing devices in the field. I will give examples of our industrial, agricultural, and wearable healthcare devices.

6:40 pm – 7:00 pm – Break time

7:00 pm – 7:30 pm – Smart Motor Control with Zephyr – Franziska Kofler, Embedded Developer, bavariamatic GmbH

This talk presents an experience report on implementing a smart motor control system using Zephyr RTOS. I will describe the step-by-step process of make a motor control application run on embedded hardware. The presentation focuses on practical challenges encountered during development, solutions that proved effective, and best practices for leveraging Zephyr’s modular architecture.

7:40 pm – 8:15pm – Zephyr Squared, Hugh Breslin, Subject Matter Expert, Microchip

“Have you ever run Zephyr and Linux side by side on the same device, in the same CPU cluster? Have you ever been developing for Linux and gone “this would be way easier in Zephyr”? With PIC64 and PolarFire SoC anything is possible!

This presentation will guide through the power and potential of an RTOS and OS combination and look down the road of the many ways this could be implemented.

We will see how you can run Linux and Zephyr side by side in an Asymmetric Multiprocessing mode (AMP) and then finally see how we can have 32x 32 bit cores running Zephyr while being managed by Linux.”

8:25pm – 8:30 pm – Thank you note – Microchip Team

8:30 pm onwards – Networking time
