Whether you are an experienced Zephyr developer, a student learning about RTOS, or simply curious about open source, this event has something for you!

What’s on the agenda?

6:00 pm – 6:15 pm: Welcome Note –  Ing. Lenka Kosková Třísková, Ph.D., Faculty of Information Technology, Czech Technical University

6:20 pm – 6:35 pm: A Primer on Observability of Embedded Systems, David Nepožitek, Developer Advocate, Spotflow

When an embedded device fails in the field, you often face two choices: guess blindly, or wait until you can get your hands on it. Observability can often provide a better path. We’ll explore the key ideas behind observability in embedded systems – why it matters, what kinds of questions it can help answer, and how it differs from simple monitoring. We’ll see how to use these ideas with Zephyr’s built-in features, and discuss the challenges of constrained, remote devices. You should leave with a clearer sense of how to start making your own embedded projects more transparent.

6:45 pm – 7:00 pm: In-source tests with Ztest, Marek Maškarinec, Firmware Engineer, HARDWARIO a.s.

Ztest is Zephyr’s own framework for writing unit and integration tests. Usually Ztest tests are written as a separate application, meaning they can only access publicly available APIs. That makes them unusable for static functions and application code, which can be solved by putting the tests directly inside the relevant source files.

7:00 pm – 7:15 pm: Break Time

7:15 pm – 7:30 pm: MediaPipe library (libMP), Michal Chvatal, Software engineer, NXP Semiconductors

A Lightweight Multimedia Framework designed for embeddid systems runnung Zephyr RTOS, inspired by GStreamer. It enables developers to build modular and scalable audio/video pipelines on MCUs.

In this talk, Michal will introduce the core concepts of the framework, including its element-based pipeline model and caps negotiation. Although the framework is not yet part of the Zephyr mainline, it is under active internal development, and we plan to submit an RFC soon.

The session will include a live HW demonstration of a simple audio or video pipeline running on Zephyr, showcasing how LibMP can be used to build applications on constrained devices.

This talk is ideal for developers interested in embedded multimedia, custom subsystems, or extending Zephyr with new capabilities.

7:40 pm – 8:10 pm: A Look into Zephyr Logging Subsystem, Robert Husák, Software Developer, Spotflow

Logs are crucial for developing and maintaining all kinds of software, including embedded systems. Let’s dive into the Zephyr logging subsystem and discuss its most interesting features and optimizations: packaging, deferring, filtering, and so on. We’ll also review the challenges and opportunities of sending logs over the Internet, drawing from our experience developing the Spotflow observability platform device SDK.

8:20 pm – 8:50 pm: Using I3C bus for connecting I3C and I2C sensors, Adam Berlinger, Application Engineer, ST Microelectronics

– Short introduction to I3C and main differences to I2C

 – Benefits and challanges of using I3C

 – How to configure and mix I3C/I2C devices in device tree

 – Demonstration with Nucleo-H503RB and X-Nucleo-IKS4A1

9:00 pm – 9:15 pm: Green and Sustainable… embedded SW with Zephyr, Ing. Lenka Kosková Třísková, Ph.D., Faculty of Information Technology, Czech Technical University

In our University research we focus on designing software for embedded systems concerning green electronics challenges.

We chose the Zephyr OS to demonstrate these approaches because its architecture supports modular design, runtime hardware reconfiguration, and optimization of the entire device’s power consumption. Our contribution summarizes best practices and shows their implementation in the Zephyr OS.

9:15pm – 9:30 pm – Closing game (NXP and ST boards giveaways)

9:30 pm onwards – Networking
